Constantin Brancusi
 
Constantin Brancusi was born on February 19 1879 in the village Hobita which has the geographical coordinates of 45° 4' 0? N, 23° 2' 0? E.  . His family was poor and at age 7, he was forced to tend the family sheep.  He attended the first years of school at Pestisani and Brădiceni towns. As a spirit in a continuous search he runs away from home at the age of 11 heading to Targu Jiu town.
 
After being reintegrated in the family, he found another good time to run away from home and ran up to Slatina, then to Craiova, where he searched for work and was hired in various places. One of the job he held was working at a grocery store whose employer was so impressed with his carving skill; he financed Constantin Brancusi to attend Craiova Scoala de Meserii (School of Crafts).   In 1894, at the age of 15, he enrolled in the school of arts and crafts and was able to complete the program in four years instead of five.
 
After graduation, he went to Bucharest where he enrolled in the School of Bele-Arts, where he was guided by Vladimir Hegel. During this period he made Vitellius works, Portrait of Georgescu-Giorjan and Ecorseul, for which won several medals at various competitions.

After graduating from School of Belle-Arts,at 24 years, in 1903, went to Munich, then walk to Paris. Worked in the French capital two years of days until he managed to be admitted to the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts in the workshop of Antonin Marcier. During this time he had met Rodin.
 
In 1910 began work on Bird cycle and Miss Pogany cycle, and in 1914 had his first solo show in New York. From 1919 and until 1939 followed his the most fruitful period of work. For 20 years he had many personal exhibitions and participated in 57 exhibitions in different countries.
 
Accomplish a monumental sculptural ensemble in Targu Jiu which started in 1937 at initiatives of Areta Tatarescu, president of National League of Women from Gorj.
 
After the age of 60 years, tired, Brancusi worked less, but its influence on contemporary sculpture has left its scars
 
He died on March 16, 1957at an age of 78 years in Paris.  During his life he created 1200 photographs and 215 sculptures.  He is buried in Montparnasse Cemetery or Cimetičre du Montparnasse which is located in Paris, France.  The cemetery is also home to several statues he carved for fellow artists who had passed on, most notable  "Le Baiser" or "The Kiss".
 
His art work is housed in the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City, Philadelphia Museum of Art which has the largest collection in the United States, National Museum of Art of Romania  or Muzeul National de Arta al României and many museums throughout the world.
