Iulia Hasdeu Castle
The historian and politician Petriceicu Hasdeu Bogdan, Mircea Eliade called him the "genius of a frightening
immensity" began in 1893 to build a castle in Campina. This was correlated with the suffering caused by the death of his daughter
Iulia (Julia) Hasdeu. The Castle was built in her memory and was named after her.
Iulia Hasdeu castle is located in Prahova county,
Wallachia, Romania - is popular known as "Temple of the Spirit", at 97 kilometers north of Bucharest, in Campina city.
The name
of Iulia Hasdeu is engraved on each of the two seats built of stone that are in front of the castle. In the middle of the building
is a painted wood sculpture of Jesus Christ, made by french artist Casciani. Behind it there is placed Iulia Hasdeu bust.
Hasdeu
is recognized as the first practitioner of spiritualism in Romania. It is said that he managed to get in touch with the spirit of
his daughter, after her death. The castle was built according to projects that Iulia Hasdeu sent to her father in spiritualist means.
Thus, the building became a shrine dedicated to the daughter and includes a room with dark walls, reserved for spiritualism sessions.
Castle
construction ends in 1896 and became a place of meditation, isolation of the scientist. Immediately after his death, castle inheritance
issues arise, which is donated to the State but to be transformed into a museum. It is placed on the list of Historic Monuments.
Today
tourists can visit a museum castle, where they can see photographs, manuscripts, documents, artwork or editions of works belonging
to the writer.
